Laura Givens, MD, CMD, FACHE, MHA

Dr. Givens is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Centric Physicians, a Certified Medical Director, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She was raised in a military family and graduated from Judson High School in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Givens received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Trinity University and received her Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston. She later received her Master of Healthcare Administration from Trinity University. Dr. Givens served in the United States Air Force medical corps, and retired in 2004, and has focused her practice in post-acute care since that time. Dr. Givens has a passion for helping others and developing strong relationships with the patients and facilities she serves. In her free time Dr. Givens enjoys spending time with her family and working with and training her two service dogs. 

Milton Shaw, MD, CMD

Certified Medical Director

Dr. Shaw is board certified and a Certified Medical Director with AMDA specializing in internal medicine. Dr. Shaw attended Rice University and the University of Health Science Center where he completed his residency. Dr. Shaw is the former president of the Texas Medical Director Association and currently sits on the board. He has been the Medical Director of Geriatrics in Kerrville for over 15 years. Dr. Shaw appreciates the personal interaction with his geriatric patients and enjoys golfing, traveling, and bird hunting.

Jay Akin, MD

Primary Care Physician

Dr. Akin is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Akin attended medical school at the University of Texas at San Antonio and completed his medical residency at the University of Tennessee. He has practiced medicine since 2005 and takes a holistic approach with his patients. His greatest passion as a physician is educating patients and families. When Dr. Akin is not caring for patients, he is spending time with his wife and three children.

Peter Acosta, MD

Dr. Acosta is board certified with the American Board of Family Practice. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Acosta fulfilled his medical degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and finished his residency at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Acosta has over 40 years of experience and always strives to take a holistic approach when practicing medicine. He has a passion for helping others and enjoys traveling in his spare time

Virginia Barlow, MD

Don Murrmann, MD

Dr. Murrmann is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine and has practiced medicine for over 38 years. He attended Indiana University and completed his residency at the University of Missouri. During his time in Houston, Tx, Dr. Murrmann had the pleasure of working at every major hospital in their medical center. Dr. Murrmann is very passionate about what he does. He enjoys every interaction he has with his patients and their families. In his spare time, Dr. Murrmann likes to stargaze through his 14’ astronomy dome.

Caridad Rebollar, MD

Dr. Rebollar is board certified in Internal Medicine with a specialty in Nephrology. She attended medical school at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr. Rebollar went on to serve in the United States Army and completed her Internal Medicine residency at William Beaumont Army Medical in El Paso, TX. After her residency, she completed her fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Virginia Health Science Center. Dr. Rebollar was a former assistant professor of Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Her background has included strong interests in senior care, preventative medicine, and kidney disease. Dr. Rebollar has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and is very passionate about her work. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Robert Reid, MD

Dr. Reid is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Reid attended medical school at Texas A&M Health Science Center and completed his medical residency at Houston Methodist in 2017 where he was chief resident. Dr. Reid takes a holistic approach with his patients and values the relationships he makes with each patient. His passion as a physician is educating patients and families. In Dr. Reid’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with his daughter.

She received her bachelor’s degree from the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas in 1991, graduated from medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1995, and completed her medical residency in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1998. Dr. Taimouri has spent the majority of her career serving the post-acute community. She is fluent in both English and Spanish and takes a holistic approach with her patients. Her greatest passion as a physician is building a relationship with her patients and families. When Dr. Taimouri is not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Lou Wallace is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Nursing in 2001 from the University of South Alabama and her Master of Nursing in 2014 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Lou is very passionate about her patients and treats each visit with exceptional care. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her two kids, baking, and traveling.

Alikia Abner, NP

Alikia Abner has been a board-certified Nurse Practitioner for four years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013 as well as her Master of Nursing in 2016 from Chamberlain College of Nursing. Alikia enjoys all aspects of helping and focuses on the continuity of care to address every need of the patient. In her spare time, she enjoys reading novels, listening to music, and spending time with her family.

Melanie Bowen, NP

Melanie Bowen began her nursing career in 1997 and has been a nurse practitioner since 2010. She received both her undergraduate and master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and has over 10 years of experience in skilled rehab, long term acute care, hospice/palliative care, and wellness/weight loss. Melanie is certified in Adult/Gerontology Primary Care and is very passionate about her work. She values the relationship she shares with her patients and families. In her free time Melanie enjoys gardening, outdoor projects, and spending time with her pets and family.

Greg Brogden, NP

reg Brogden is a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Greg has more than 15 years nursing experience in an acute care setting. He became a Nurse Practitioner once he completed his Masters of Science in Nursing in 2010. Greg was born in Idaho but calls Texas home. In his free time, Greg enjoys relaxing with his family.

Kathy Carroll is board certified in gerontological nursing with specialties in cardiac nursing and wound treatment. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1983 as well as Master of Nursing in 2006 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Kathy is very passionate and takes pride in assisting geriatric patients through various transitions of care. In her spare time, she enjoys quilting, gardening, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Jesus Aranda, Psy.D

Dr. Aranda is a clinical psychologist with an expertise in dementia and neuropsychology. He is the lead Coordinator for Centric Physicians Behavior Health team.  Dr. Aranda attended Argosy University in Dallas and completed his residency at the Mississippi State Hospital and post-doctoral year with San Antonio State Hospital. Dr. Aranda is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of severe psychiatric illnesses. As a neuropsychologist, he conducts neurobehavioral evaluations to help clarify diagnosis and assist with treatment plans of people with neurocognitive disorders (dementia, TBI, etc). Dr. Aranda also enjoys the opportunity to work with and help families understand brain changes that affect their loved ones. In his spare time, Dr. Aranda enjoys spending time with his family and playing tennis.

Tracey Cawthorn, M.D.

Dr. Cawthorn is board certified in general psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. She is the Division Medical Director for Centric Physicians Behavioral Health Team. She completed her medical school, psychiatry residency, and geriatric psychiatry fellowship at UTHSCSA after completion of psychiatry internship at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Dr. Cawthorn has provided outpatient and inpatient care as the Medical Director of geriatric behavioral health at Baptist Health system. She also provides services in an outpatient clinic as well as telepsychiatry services for detainees at correctional facilities in Texas. Dr. Cawthorn is education motivated and has participated in educational presentations and teaching of medical students, residents, and community residents. Her focus was on Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry, primary psychiatry consultant for Texas Region 8 Adult Protective Services (APS) where she performed forensic psychiatry evaluations, and an outpatient clinic specializing in cognitive impairments and depression in elders. Dr. Cawthorn is passionate about her work and loves being able to make a change in her patient’s lives. In her spare time, Dr. Cawthorn enjoys spending time with her family.

She has been a nurse practitioner for three years now and loves being able to make a change in her patient’s lives. Efrem DeHughes has over 15 years of experience in a variety of settings and diverse clients including both long term and brief interventions. Efrem is a Psychotherapist-Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Texas. Efrem graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with both his graduate degree in Social Work and his undergraduate degree in Sociology. Efrem began working in the field of public service at Job Corps of San Diego, California in the early 2000’s as a Residential Dorm Advisor. Efrem has prior service military in the U.S. Army as a combat medic. He has worked in the field of social service: a residential advisor, childcare worker, case manager, CNA-certified nursing assistant, treatment house parent, client coordinator, co-occurring/dual diagnosis group facilitator, and psychotherapist/clinical social worker. Efrem’s years of experience in the public service arena includes working within the fields of children and families, veterans, substance abuse/addictions, homelessness, mental/behavioral health and within the criminal justice system. Efrem has also participated extensively with various volunteer projects within the community.

Dr. Gutierrez has dedicated her career to serving the geriatric population. She received her bachelor’s degree in Genetics from Texas A&M University in 1992 and went on to complete a Post Baccalaureate in Cytogenetics at the UTHSC in Houston in 1993 and worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Gutierrez graduated from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 2000. She started her medical career in El Paso, Texas, serving in General Internal Medicine in 2003 and has resided here since. She also completed her Master of Science in Healthcare Management from the University of Texas Dallas in 2014. Dr. Gutierrez always strives to treat her patients with respect, dignity, and with a holistic approach.  Dr. Gutierrez is fluent in Spanish and active in her church as well as parent booster clubs for her children.

Tracey was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and will always call this her home. She has worked with the senior population for 12 years and values her relationships with this community.
