Barbara Wise, MD
Barbara Wise, M.D. is a board-certified Psychiatrist specializing in geriatrics. She has been a practicing psychiatrist for more than 15 years with ten years focusing on geriatric psychiatry. She holds a B.S. in Biology and Psychology from The College of William and Mary in Virginia, a M.S. in Physiology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and received her M.D. from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, MCV Campus. Her internship and residency were at the University of Texas Southwestern at Dallas where she focused on geriatric interests.
She has worked in community mental health, military mental health, hospital- based psychiatry, providing electroconvulsive treatments (ECT), psychiatric emergency services, and long-term care settings. In addition to Texas, she has practiced in long term care facilities located in Colorado, North Carolina, Iowa, Tennessee, and Virginia. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry for Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and enjoys teaching and advancing the future of psychiatric services by involvement with psychiatry residents and mid-level providers.
Dr. Wise aspires to address mood, anxiety, psychotic and cognitive problems that contribute to poor quality of life for elderly patients. Some of her major focuses include dose reduction of psychotropic medications, addressing the influence of comorbid medical conditions on psychiatric conditions, and reducing poly- pharmacy.
